What is Truth?
… Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this very reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth…” John 18:37-38
I have a very important question to ask you and I hope you can give me the right answer. Oh, did I mention my life could depend on your answer! Are you ready? Here we go! What is truth?
Many in the world today would say they are looking for truth for their lives. The search for truth can be a life-long journey. A few thousand years ago, Jesus stood before a man named Pilate and was asked that same question, “What is Truth?” There was never a word that Jesus spoke that was not truth. Not only were His words truth, He was and will always be truth! Doesn’t sound like there is much negotiating on this one! God sent Him, heaven stood behind Him, Truth had arrived and the world didn’t know what to do with Him. Jesus was on a mission and nothing could stop Him. Pilate tried, the religious leaders tried, the people tried, the cross tried and even the tomb tried to keep Truth behind that massive stone.
How about you, looking for truth? Not sure which direction to go? Confused about this world and your future in it! For me truth starts with an open and willing heart, a humility to admit that I might not have all the answers. God sent Jesus to earth to testify to the truth. He made it very clear, if truth is your destination, you will listen to Him. Who have you been listening to lately? The news! A politician! Your local paper! A college professor! Your boss! Or maybe even a friend that seems to know most everything a human needs to know!
God made it real simple for all mankind! If you want truth, Jesus is your answer. And if you want to learn more about truth, His word will be your source. Truth is there to be found, the challenge for each of us, how hungry are we for truth? Two thousand years ago Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32).” True freedom was bought with a price, the red blood of Jesus. Why not let the truth of Jesus set you free!
By the way, the question I asked you at the beginning, I really do know the answer and I hope you do too!
