Who Or What Do You Love?
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful men, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:15-17
DO NOT!!!! Sounds pretty serious to me!
It is one thing when a friend gives you a warning, but when it comes from God’s word, we better listen. Jesus made it very clear that the world will know us by our love. It will not be our love for things, but our love for each other (John 13:35).
Each day you and I must choose, who or what will we love! God and His word has a way of reminding us of how tempting this world can be. It is so easy to walk that wide road that leads to destruction, to live a life of pride and become addicted to the cravings of this world.
Who or what do you love?
Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).” Why does Jesus always have to be right?! The simple truth; no one knows the human heart like Jesus. Jesus experienced the temptation of this world, yet through it all He showed us another way, His way! As I write these words to you, I am asking myself this question, what do I crave in my life? Craving means to have an abnormal desire or longing for something. Let’s be real here, all of us can be so easily drawn toward the things of this world. Our human nature craves all the stuff: the new job, the new car, the new clothes, the new house, the new toys, etc. The pull is strong and the list is long, God reminds us that one day it will all pass away.
Who or what do you love?
I want to plant this thought in your heart…who you love will determine what you love. Take a moment to ponder that one……Now, be real honest with yourself, where is your loyalty and who has your love, God or the world? If our love is for the world, we will seek after what the world offers. If our love is for God, our heart and passion will be for God and His kingdom. The world and all it’s desires pass away, but those who do the will of God live forever and ever!
Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (John 16:33).”
