Who Holds Your Key?
Jesus said…“I hold the keys of death and hell.” Revelation 1:18
Jesus said, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and hell.” Revelation 1:18
My first recollection of keys takes me way back in time, like grade school. There was one man I will never forget in those early years, the janitor. He was a simple, ordinary guy like most of us. What set him apart in my eyes was those keys. I have never seen so many keys hanging from the belt of one man in all my life. Those keys represented one thing to me, authority. This guy could go wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted and no lock or door could stop him. Now that is a man with authority!
Just recently on one of our ministry trips into one of the prisons here in Colorado, God taught me a very important lesson about keys. We were preparing to do a yard event, with a morning and afternoon session. Half the inmates would be invited to the morning session and then the remaining half would be invited to the afternoon session. If they chose not to come to this event, they could still be out on the yard exercising, lifting weights or just hanging out. We knew that many of those inmates needed to hear our message, but many would choose not to come. As we prepared for the morning group, something went wrong. A key came up missing to the medical facility, which meant until that key was found all the inmates would remain in lock-down in their cells. Needless to say, not a happy time for all involved. Not only did this effect the inmates, it threw our agenda into a tailspin. Our team had everything planned out to the minute, and now what would we do? We were planning on starting at eight am, but still no key. Soon it was nine, ten, eleven and still no key. The morning session had to be cancelled. We were still in hope that we would be able to speak to the afternoon group, God willing. The key that was gone would turn out to be the key to our afternoon victory!
At twelve noon the warden or should I say God made a very important decision. With all the prisoners still in lock-down they were given an option. They could either come to our yard event or remain in their cells until the key was found! For many, we were not their first option, but we looked a whole lot better than remaining in their cells for the rest of the day. Many inmates chose to come that afternoon and many were touched as Jesus once again revealed to all of us that we are to always trust Him because He holds the key to life.
How about you? Who holds the key to your life? Have you misplaced it, lost it or maybe even been running from it? Don’t worry, Jesus holds it in His hand and He wants you to invite Him to unlock the destiny that He has for your life. This is not some random destiny, but a God given destiny that was placed on you before the beginning of time, when you were formed in the secret place.
Jesus told us not to be afraid, that He is the First and the Last and everything in between. Your key now belongs to Jesus because He purchased it with His red blood that was shed on the cross at Calvary. There is an empty tomb in Jerusalem, the one who was dead is now alive! Jesus is calling your name and holds the key to your future in His hand.
Will you trust Him?
