You Follow, I Make!
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:18-19
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fisherman. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men. At once they left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:18-19
It sure sounds like Jesus caught a couple men that day as He walked along the Sea of Galilee. Two grown men working their fishing business, leave it all because a man says to come and follow Him! Yep! How about you, been fishing lately? And if you have, did you catch anything? Fishing is always a lot more fun when you catch something.
It was no mistake that Jesus found Peter and Andrew that day as they were casting their nets hoping to strike it big. Jesus never had a meeting that wasn’t first planned in heaven. He knew these men would be there and He knew that they would follow Him. Jesus had this way with people, I guess you could say it was a gift from heaven. His goal was to catch the hearts of men.
Jesus has a way of meeting us in our world and a way of finding us on our shores of Galilee. Have you seen Him lately? Have you heard Him calling your name? I bet you will hear Him if you just listen. He is calling your name and He wants to reel you in to do the Father’s will on earth. That’s right, simple ordinary you, a part of God’s ultimate plan for the universe. This is no wild fish story, we are talking real life that could not only alter the course of your journey but impact the lives of many through your surrendered heart.
Will you take the bait? Jesus wants to know if you will respond to His three simple words, “Come Follow Me!” If you do, you have a promise from Him. He will make you a fisher of men. Think about that for a moment. If you do your part, He will do His. This is not for the faint hearted but for those who want to be a part of God’s redeeming work on earth. You have so much potential! Jesus wants to take that potential and make you into the very thing you were created for from the beginning of time. You may not totally understand that nor do I, but He does and that’s what really matters.
I want to be more like Jesus and I’ll bet you do to. It starts with us meeting Jesus at the foot of the cross and then following Him as He leads and guides us into all truth. As we follow Him on this narrow road our refining begins to take place. Each challenge before us is there for a reason. It is Jesus doing what only He can do, making us into the image of Himself! The Sea of Galilee is one beautiful place, the question for each of us, will we leave it all to follow Him?
Looks like a great day for fishing, what do you think?
